Abstract

This study aims to examine the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Islamic Religious Education (IRE) through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The review identifies AI technologies, their educational applications, potential benefits, implementation challenges, and research gaps. The literature search was conducted using Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, and Google Scholar, focusing on publications from 2020 to 2026. The findings indicate that AI supports personalized learning, Quranic education, interactive instruction, automated feedback, and the development of digital learning materials. AI also facilitates independent learning and access to Islamic educational resources. However, its implementation faces challenges related to religious content accuracy, ethical considerations, data privacy, and teacher readiness. The review also identifies limited empirical evidence on long-term learning outcomes and the reliability of AI-generated religious content. These findings highlight the importance of teacher supervision and alignment with Islamic educational values. This study provides an integrated overview of AI applications, educational benefits, challenges, and research directions in Islamic Religious Education.
